The Chelsea Physic Garden & the Almond Bakewell Tart

The weather can make a garden visit, the weather and time. Neither of these were totally on our side, as we visited this garden which is tucked away in the middle of totally posh Chelsea, only a 15 minute walk from Sloane Square.Walled gardens always feel a bit secretive and this one - the second oldest botanical garden in London - is no different. A whopping 5,000 plants crammed in a relatively small place all feel very natural and much like a home garden of a rather eccentric posh West Londoner, than the work of many exhausted perfectionists, that make it much more relaxing than I expected.The hum of Chelsea doesn't seem to disturb the feeling of peace too much and actually my favourite thing about the garden was the visible backdrop of Chelsea. I loved the glamorous, tall red brick buildings that circle the garden reminding you of where you are.My other favourite thing was the almond and rhubarb bakewell tart. I won't mention the 'M* word' but it's nutty softness and light, crispy top with melt in your mouth rhubarb was wicked.
